THE ATLANTIC ADVENTURE
September 13-18, 2010
Halifax, NS - Cape Breton - France -Newfoundland - St. Johns, NL
w/ Fred Eaglesmith Band, Kathleen Edwards, Washboard Hank & Lance Loree

Alasdair Fraser Fiddle Train
Join Fred Eaglesmith, Kathleen Edwards and musical madcaps Washboard Hank and Lance Loree for an amazing adventure in Atlantic Canada.

Ocean Nova

Panorama

Nova Cabin

We will go where large cruise ships cannot - from the open ocean into hidden bays and remote villages. Our vessel, the Ocean Nova, was built to navigate ice-choked seas. The ship is ours entirely: she carries just 92 passengers and sports only outside cabins with private facilities, a beautiful panorama lounge, a spacious dining room with excellent meals and a comfortable library. She is a perfect expedition ship for five nights and six days of music, laughter and discovery.

Departing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, we’ll travel by night and go ashore by day to Cape Breton, the remote inlets and rocky coastline of the South Shore of Newfoundland and the islands of Miquelon and St. Pierre, the last remnants of France’s once-immense possessions on this continent. Where there are no docks, inflatable zodiacs will take us ashore, or to witness marine life and birds up close. Experienced guides from Adventure Canada will lead nature discussions, hikes and strolls. We end our journey in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the most easterly point in North America.

There will be open mics, picking parties, and after dinner each night, full concerts from the extraordinary Fred Eaglesmith, his band and friends.

This is adventure music travel in the great tradition of last year’s Polar Bear Train! Berth space as well as private doubles and triples are available - it doesn’t matter if you’re travelling alone or with friends and loved ones - once you take one of our trips, you’re part of the tribe!

"A unique combination of luxury travel and musical performances. A rare chance to spend time with my favourite performers for an extended period and close-up. It changed the way I listen to their songs forever!" - Mirjam Kapoen

"I can't thank you enough for the wonderful job. It's such a treat to be part of an adventure like this where everything is taken care of for you and you get to experience the most amazing things in addition to the trains! I'm already looking forward to next year!" - Trisha Pedroia

2010 ATLANTIC ADVENTURE SCHEDULE - as of June 2, 2010

Kathleen Edwards

THE PERFORMERS:

KATHLEEN EDWARDS

www.kathleenedwards.com

praises Kathleen Edwards as a writer whose songs can "pare situations down to a few dozen words while they push country-rock towards its primal impulses of thump and twang."

Edwards has built an enviable reputation as a strong live performer, mesmerizing singer and deft songwriter. Her debut, Failer, was widely acclaimed as one of the finest recordings in recent memory. No Depression said the album marked "the arrival of a rare talent." Rolling Stone declared her one of year's most promising new acts and Blender said Failer's songs possessed "an indefinable pull that makes you love the characters they describe, no matter how messed up they are."

"I try to make my records without any preconceptions or expectations," says Edwards. "I like to just work with my friends and try to make the best record I could. I don't think even in my wildest dreams I imagined I'd end up on Letterman and Leno, touring everywhere and opening for The Stones and AC/DC and Bob Dylan. I wasn't aiming for any of that, but it all happened."

Edwards has developed a devoted following, and has released three acclaimed discs, Failer, Back to Me and Asking For Flowers.

"I do get a sense that there is a change coming. People are getting tired of a lot of the safe, predictable, plastic music that has been shoved at them in recent years. They responded to my record and I know there's this big reservoir of music, and of music lovers, that have been waiting for something new, something a little more substantial. As a music fan, I'm hoping that change does happen. And as singer and songwriter, I'd love to be a part of it."
